to enoxaparin-based treatment

10th December 2008

Bayer has announced the results of trials on its Xarelto (rivaroxaban) product, which indicate it is superior to enoxaparin-based treatment regimens as a venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention drug.

Xarelto reduced symptomatic VTE and death in patients following hip or knee replacement surgery by over 50 per cent, in comparison with enoxaparin.

The tests were carried out in pooled analysis of the Record Clinical Trial Programme and the results presented at the 50th annual meeting of the American Society of Haematology in San Francisco.

Dr AGG Turpie, investigator for the prgramme and Professor of Medicine at McMaster University, Canada, explained the importance of the drug.

"Swelling in the leg and shortness of breath are symptoms that can herald venous thromboembolism, which, in turn, can result in long-term complications or death," he said, adding reducing these complications is one of his targets as a physician.

Last month, Bayer was named best chemical and pharmaceutical company in Brazil, people looking for scientific sales jobs may also be interested to know. ADNFCR-1050-ID-18921488-ADNFCR
