TTP LabTech’s mosquito has ‘unique hanging drop’

18th May 2007

TTP LabTech has said that its mosquito has a "unique approach" to drop protein crystallography set-ups.

The manufacturer states that this raises the chance of scale-up success since it allows the same technique to be used for screening and for scale-up. This is particularly useful for membrane protein crystallographers, it adds.

So far the mosquito has proved popular among protein crystallographers due to its accurate positioning and its ability to reduce the size of crystallography set-ups.

The mosquito also automates drop set-up, which allows researchers to screen more conditions, but use less sample and in a shorter time. This also improves accuracy and repeatability, the firm adds.

TTP Labtech continues that the mosquito’s precise linear drives and optical sensors allow for accuracy better than 0.05 mm in X, Y and Z axes.

The accuracy also allows for several multi-component drops per well "even in high-density 96-well hanging drop set-ups".

In related news, TTP Labtech has extended its global reach, with new distribution agreements for Japan, India, Australia and New Zealand.
