Tunstall Launches ILOS Independent Living Platform in UK

3rd November 2026

Tunstall Healthcare has launched ILOS, its Independent Living Operating System, positioning the device-agnostic platform as a shift from reactive alarm handling toward proactive, preventative care for UK Alarm Receiving Centres. Announced on 27 October 2026 after 12 months of innovation and beta testing with select customers, ILOS marks a substantial strategic repositioning for a company that founded the technology-enabled care sector and created the first dedicated monitoring centre software for emergency calls in 1981.

ILOS connects devices, data and emergency responses through a single open system, moving the UK technology-enabled care sector away from closed, proprietary architectures. The platform combines AI, real-time data and connected devices to support collaboration between health, care and neighbourhood teams, with device-agnostic design that works with any alarm, wearable or sensor with a digital pulse and minimal configuration. Standards-based interoperability and open APIs link shared care records and responder networks, turning calls and signals into structured, real-time insights to demonstrate impact, target resources and intervene earlier. Nikki Williams, Director of Solution and Innovation at Tunstall Healthcare, framed the platform’s device-agnostic philosophy as central to a more connected model of care. Mark Hindle, UK Managing Director, positioned ILOS around the principle that support needs to wrap around people rather than technology, arguing that reactive models of care are no longer sufficient.

The launch arrives at a pivotal moment for UK social care, with Alarm Receiving Centres under pressure from the ongoing analogue-to-digital telephony switchover and growing demand to demonstrate measurable outcomes against local authority commissioning pressure. The device-agnostic positioning carries significant commercial implications: it reduces supplier lock-in risk for commissioners while opening Tunstall’s addressable market beyond its own hardware ecosystem. The AI-driven preventative care angle also aligns with wider NHS and local authority emphasis on reducing avoidable hospital admissions among older adults. ILOS is now available for UK ARC implementation, with Tunstall signalling that future development will be shaped by customer feedback.

The commercial signal is a maturing UK technology-enabled care category where device-agnostic, interoperable platforms are reshaping Alarm Receiving Centre economics and shifting the sector from reactive alarm response toward preventative, data-driven care. Analogue switchover timelines anchor near-term commissioning decisions. Expect sustained UK investment in technology-enabled care platforms, interoperability standards and AI-driven preventative monitoring through 2027.
