Unilever proposes new board member

13th December 2010

Unilever has announced the proposed election of Sunil Bharti Mittal as a new non-executive director on the company's board.

Mr Mittal, the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Bharti Enterprises, has been suggested for the role based on his extensive experience in business building in developing markets.

His election will be formally put forward to Unilever's board at the group's forthcoming annual general meetings, which take place on May 11th 2011 in London and on May 12th in Rotterdam.

Michael Treschow, chairman of Unilever, welcomed Mr Mittal's decision to agree to this proposal, expressing confidence that he will "add considerably" to its business prospects.

He explained: "He is distinguished in his field and will further strengthen the expertise and independence of the board, as well as broadening its diversity."

Earlier this month, Unilever completed its move to acquire the personal care and European laundry business of US-based Sara Lee, after receiving the relevant regulatory approval.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800287869-ADNFCR
