Veolia has presented its planning request for an Advanced Energy Recovery Facility for Hampshire

Veolia has presented its planning request for an Advanced Energy Recovery Facility nearby Alton, which will save sixty-five thousand tonnes of carbon emissions annually, as part of the areas mission to recover more energy from waste, and recycle more.

The planning application is for an innovative and advanced technology which will use non-recyclable leftover waste to generate power for the National Grid. The facility will provide sufficient electricity for over seventy-thousand homes in Hampshire, as well as produce more than three-hundred jobs during development. The thirty-Megawatt plant, which is being continuously observed by the Environment Agency, is sized for residual Hampshire waste that is currently landfilled in the county or transported somewhere else.

Chief Technology and Innovation Officer at Veolia Ireland and U K, Richard Kirkman, stated: “This facility will allow Hampshire to lead the way in waste management, saving sixty-five thousand tonnes of carbon emissions compared to landfill and delivering a thirty per cent increase in energy efficiency. In terms of a green recovery, this represents an important investment in new clean infrastructure that will contribute towards reaching the carbon net-zero target as well as providing new construction jobs and permanent local employment.”
