Walgreen Boots Alliance appoints global controller and chief accounting officer

Walgreen Boots Alliance has announced the appointment of Kimberly Scardino as its new senior-vice president, global controller and chief accounting officer with immediate effect.

Ms Scardino joins the company from American Express, where she most recently served as senior vice-president and business advisory controller. Prior to this, she was senior vice-president and controller for the Americas, a role she occupied from June 2012 to March 2015.

Before joining American Express in 2006, she served in accounting functions at Credit Suisse Group and at Lyondell Chemical Company. She started her career at Arthur Andersen, where she was an auditor from 1994 to 2002.

In her position at Walgreen Alliance Boots, she will report to George Fairweather, the company's executive vice-president and global chief financial officer.

This comes after the firm last month appointed Stefano Pessina as its new permanent chief executive officer, after a number of months in which he served in the role on a temporary basis.
