Walgreen Boots Alliance highlights CSR achievements for 2017

Walgreen Boots Alliance has launched its Corporate Social Responsibility Report for the fiscal year ending August 31st 2017, a period marked by considerable progress on several key fronts.

During the 12 months, the firm was able to take important steps forward on promoting sustainability in the healthcare sector, while also battling climate change and fostering diversity and inclusion within the organisation.

For example, efforts were made to expand programmes to combat opioid abuse in the US, through medication disposal kiosks and work to produce supplies of naloxone, a lifesaving opioid antidote.

In the UK, meanwhile, Boots staff and customers have raised more than GBP 15 million for Macmillan Cancer Support over eight years, with more than 2,200 Boots Macmillan Information Pharmacists trained to offer support to cancer patients and their families.

Other 2017 highlights include an expansion of the company's partnership with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and a reduction of its total carbon footprint by 6.5 percent from the previous year.
