Walgreens Boots Alliance reorganises senior leadership team

Walgreens Boots Alliance has announced several changes to the composition and structure of its senior leadership team.

Alex Gourlay, president of Walgreens, has been appointed as the firm's co-chief operating officer, a role he will share with Ornella Barra, the firm's president and chief executive of global wholesale and international retail. This is in addition to their roles as executive vice-presidents of Walgreens Boots Alliance.

Mr Gourlay will oversee both the Walgreens and Boots businesses going forward, while Ms Barra will supervise global brands, human resources and other business services.

Ken Murphy, meanwhile, will become an executive vice-president, as well as chief commercial officer and president of global brands, with Kathleen Wilson-Thompson taking on the role of executive vice-president and global chief human resources officer.

Finally, Elizabeth Fagan has been promoted from senior vice-president and managing director of international retail to the post of managing director of Boots, succeeding Simon Roberts, who is leaving the company in July.

Jim Skinner, Walgreens Boots Alliance executive chairman, said: "As we continue to work together to find simpler and more effective ways to manage our company, I believe this is the right structure at the right time."
