Waters to expand chemical facility in Massachusetts

Waters has announced plans to build and equip a new state-of-the-art facility to expand its existing precision chemistry operations in Taunton, Massachusetts.

The company will spend around $215 million (GBP 153.32 million) on the expansion project, which will support rising global customer demand, as well as driving ongoing innovation in chemistry technology.

At present, the site is responsible for bulk synthesis of chromatographic media, which plays a key role in sample analysis for a range of pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, materials, food, clinical and biomedical research applications.

LEED certification standards will be deployed during the construction work, as well as state-of-the-art manufacturing and process technologies, allowing for the creation of a new centre of excellence that meets high standards of output, cost, quality and sustainability.

Specific plans are still being detailed, with the new plant anticipated to be operational by 2022. Until then, the existing facility is expected to fully meet Waters' operational and growth needs.
