Welch Allyn introduces new software for vital signs devices

Welch Allyn has announced the introduction of new Connex Virtual Channel Software to expand the functionality of its USB-connected vital signs devices.

The new software simplifies the process of documenting patient data in medical practices that utilise thin-client server-hosted electronic health records, by making computers connectable to a variety of USB devices.

Linking to devices such as the Spot Vital Signs LXi, Connex Integrated Wall System and Connex ProBP 3400 through this method offers significant advantages compared to COM port serial mapping, including the ability to operate high-latency, low-bandwidth and high-loss networks.

Howard Higgins, global category manager for thermometry and vital signs at Welch Allyn, said: "This next-generation software provides expanded thin-client support for some of the most common diagnostic procedures giving healthcare professionals the advantage of managing patient data even more efficiently and effectively."

Last month, the manufacturer announced that its president and chief executive officer Julie Shimer will be retiring at the end of the year, with the search for her successor now underway.
