Wrigley commended for global sustainability

11th March 2009

Wrigley has been commended for its commitment to global sustainability.

Its Global Innovation Centre was awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design gold certificate by the Green Building Council.

The recognition shows that the location meets certain criteria, which looks at environmental, economic and health benefits.

Included in the marking scheme are areas such as improving water efficiency, using renewable materials and employing innovative design.

The certification also acknowledges that the building has had a minimum constraint on the local infrastructure and has reduced overall operating costs.

Dushan Petrovich, president of the firm, commented: “Throughout the company, Wrigley has consistently taken steps to reduce energy, greenhouse gases, water and waste.”

He concluded that improving the environmental profile of the business is the right thing to do for the firm, its associates and the communities it operates in.

Last month, Wrigley announced it was investing $3.5 million (2.5 million pounds) to youth initiatives in a number of countries including the UK, Germany and Spain.

Part of the money will be used for a citizen agency for 11 to 26-year-olds in Scotland to educate them about the environment.
