Wyeth CEO becomes chairman as well

Wyeth has announced that its president and chief executive officer (CEO) Bernard Poussat has taken on the additional responsibility of being chairman of its board of directors.

The 56-year-old became president and vice-chairman in April of last year, after having been voted on to the board of directors and appointed as chief operating officer in earlier in 2007.

At the beginning of this year, Mr Poussat was named as the CEO of Wyeth, which counts itself as being among the world’s largest research-driven pharmaceutical companies operating anywhere in the world.

Mr Poussat has taken over as chairman from Robert Essner, who held the position since January 2003 and has now retired from the company altogether.

Boasting an array of “outstanding” products, Wyeth insists that the drugs it delivers to markets around the world are responsible for saving the lives of millions of people.
