Wyeth Pharmaceuticals tops CNS pipeline list

Wyeth Pharmaceuticals has announced that Wyeth has been selected as the top central nervous system (CNS) pipeline in the Top Ten Pipeline Report in the January edition of R&D Directions magazine.

The company reports that it has 18 compounds in its CNS development pipeline at present, including candidate treatments for a range of neurological conditions, such as Alzheimer’s disease bipolar disorder, depression and schizophrenia.

The company claims to be the only firm investigating three distinct technical platforms, being small molecules, biotechnology proteins and vaccines.

Compounds in development for Alzheimer’s disease through these platforms include beta-amyloid, gamma secretase and plasminogen activator inhibitors.

Robert R Ruffolo, senior vice president and president of research and development of the company, said: “Wyeth is honoured to be selected as having this year’s best CNS pipeline by R&D Directions.”

He added that the company would continue to invest in its employees and resources to guarantee the growth in size and scope of its research and development pipeline.

Last week, Wyeth announced the election of Bernard Poussot to the position of president, chief operating officer and vice chairman of the firm, as well as noting his election to the board of directors of the company.
