Zimmer reports ten per cent increase in second-quarter sales

Zimmer has announced its financial results for the second quarter of the 2007 fiscal year, with the firm reporting a ten per cent increase in net sales on the same period last year to $971 million (480 million pounds).

Diluted earnings per share for the quarter were in line with First Call consensus estimates, rising 20 per cent on a reported level and 18 per cent on an adjusted level to $0.97 and $0.98 respectively.

Dental sales rose 22 per cent on the figures for the second quarter of 2006, while extremities sales increased by 35 per cent.

Also during the quarter, the company continued its work to roll out its Gender Solutions knee product, with a significant increase in sales compared to the first quarter of the year.

David Dvorak, president and chief executive officer of Zimmer, said: “This was a solid quarter for Zimmer and we are pleased that we achieved double digit sales growth in our Asia Pacific geographic segment, our Americas and Asia Pacific reconstructive categories and our extremities and dental businesses.”

He added that the company was progressing with the implementation of its enable innovate and grow strategic plans which aim to achieve an acceleration of growth while building on the leadership in its reconstructive segment.

In February 2007, Zimmer reported a six per cent increase in net sales for the 2006 fiscal year, with revenues reaching $3.5 billion.
