Zimmer’s PJAC solution shows cartilage repair benefits in new study

Zimmer has highlighted the recent publication of a study showing the benefits of particulated juvenile articular cartilage (PJAC) solutions, such as its DeNovo NT Natural Tissue Graft.

Published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine, the two-year prospective study involved 25 patients in three clinical centres and concluded that PJAC treatments represent a rapid, safe and effective treatment for cartilage defects.

Techniques involving the DeNovo NT were also shown to offer a significant improvement compared to baseline results, with histologically favourable tissue repair performance two years after surgery.

More than 7,000 surgical implants have been carried out using PJAC treatments like DeNovo NT Graft since their introduction, but this was the first study to measuring their impact based on prospective clinical data.

Ed Margerrison, vice-president of early intervention at Zimmer, said: "Zimmer is excited to continue our partnership with surgeons and patients to provide a wide range of options for early intervention of osteoarthritis."

This week, the company also announced that its board of directors has approved the payment of a quarterly cash dividend for the third quarter of 2014, which will be paid at the end of October.
