The importance of tackling Rare Diseases and how Zenopa is playing a part
What is a rare disease?
A rare disease is a unique disease that affects 3.5% – 5.9% of the global population – that’s approximately 300 million people suffering from one or more of the 6,000 identified rare diseases worldwide. In perspective, that’s equivalent to the population of the world’s third-largest country. Approximately 72% of rare diseases are genetic, while others result from infections, environmental causes, allergies or are degenerative and proliferative.
Challenges of rare diseases
Many people with a rare disease struggle because their doctors have limited information about their condition; thus, patients are left in the dark about how their condition will affect them in the future. Patients with common symptoms can hide underlying rare diseases, leading to delayed treatment and misdiagnosis. Furthermore, the fact that there are little-to-no effective cures heightens their stress and adds to the patient and their families’ pain.
How Zenopa is playing their part
This February, Zenopa are raising awareness of rare diseases by posting on our digital channels (social media and our website), as well as creating a company event, in which each of us carries out a form of sponsored exercise on our own, on 27th February, with all money raised going towards the Rare Disease Day charity.
Rare disease is a niche area we specialise in; therefore, it’s critical we play our part to raise awareness of this situation to help those with the disease and their families who also suffer tremendously.
If you’d like to find out more about how our specialisms can help you with your recruiting needs within rare diseases, please call us on: +44 (0) 1494 818 028, send us a message, or email enquiries@zenopa.com
