Zenopa’s Corporate Social Responsibility Efforts

20th June 2018

The aim of Corporate Social Responsibility- or CSR as it’s more commonly known, is to ensure that companies conduct their business in a way that’s ethical, by considering their social, economic and environmental impact on the location and surrounding areas.

Activities can include working in partnership with local communities and charities, and thinking about the best way to sustain and protect the environment.

What does Zenopa do?

Here at Zenopa, we are all for doing everything we can to protect the environment and give back to communities, both locally and further afield. The innovation of technology has allowed our business to become a ‘paperless’ office; well not completely paperless but as paperless as possible. All of our consultants think twice before they print anything, and in the event of paper being used, it is either shredded if holding private information or recycled.

As well as participating in annual challenges to test the team’s strength, endurance and resistance (challenges include; The Three Peaks Challenge, Isle of Weight challenge, The Chiltern Three Peaks, Great North Run and 100 Mile canoe trip around the river Wye) we also have a responsibility to work with local communities.

Our Quality Control and Training Manager Louise, is a volunteer at the Bucks Youth Offending Service in High Wycombe. Here, Louise explains in more detail about her volunteering role:

“I volunteer at the Bucks Youth Offending Service in two capacities. The first is as an Appropriate Adult. If a young person under the age of 17 has been arrested, they will be interviewed by police officers about the offence they are alleged to have committed. By law there must be a parent or other responsible person over 18 present. If nobody from their family is available I will be asked to attend the police interview. I am usually on standby at High Wycombe police station and will attend as and when I am called. Any police station can be a frightening place, and for me it is important that the young person knows there is someone on their side, looking out for their best interests, even if it is a stranger.

Sometimes these cases go to court, and if a young person has appeared in court and pleaded guilty, they will be given a referral order, and be referred to a panel.  As a Panel Member, we look at who has been affected by the offending behaviour and how. We agree a plan of action with the young person in the form of a contract, which aims to prevent further offending and help to repair the harm caused. Through the referral orders we hope to reduce and prevent offending by young people by engaging with them, their parents/carers, the victims and the community, giving the young offender the tools to make positive choices, and to understand everyone’s rights and responsibilities to address offending behaviour.

I have four teenagers, and sometimes when I’m involved with a young offender and their parents/carers, I think “there but for the grace of God go I”. Things happen in life, and sometimes it can spiral out of control. The most important thing is that someone is there to help you get back on your feet, put right what went wrong, and learn from the experience.”
