With the business experiencing significant growth across the UK and Europe, Flexible Lab Solutions needed to expand their engineering team to support this expansion. The aim was to recruit two new engineers who would be responsible for field-based work, delivering customised laboratory solutions to clients across the regions.

Due to the niche nature of their market and the specialised skill sets required, Flexible Lab Solutions chose to work with Zenopa exclusively. This is because, historically, they found it a challenge to find engineers with the right technical expertise along with the soft skills and adaptability needed to manage the travel commitments.

Furthermore, the company had previously focused on hiring recent graduates but found it difficult to find candidates with the necessary experience for these roles.

Zenopa’s recruitment specialists, took a strategic approach to address this challenge. Rather than continuing to search for recent graduates, they recommended considering candidates from outside the immediate industry who brought valuable field service experience. The team recognised that these professionals would be better equipped to handle the travel demands and client-facing aspects of the role, while also having the engineering background required for the technical elements of the job.

The team also advised Flexible Lab Solutions on salary bandings for the roles, ensuring alignment with industry standards to attract the right calibre of candidates. This helped set realistic expectations regarding compensation and made the company more competitive in the hiring market.

In addition, The team personally screened over 590 candidates from Zenopa’s database, job boards, and LinkedIn, narrowing down the pool to a select few who matched both the technical requirements and the cultural fit for the company. As they are a small team, it was important that the candidates are invested, flexible and have a can do attitude.

Over the course of two years, Zenopa screened 590 candidates, resulting in six first-stage interviews and three final-stage interviews over 2 recruitment projects. This led to two highly qualified engineers joining Flexible Lab Solutions and contributing to the company’s continued growth in the UK and Europe.

As a result of this successful collaboration, Zenopa has supported Flexible Lab Solutions expand its engineering team by 50%. The relationship has now evolved into a long-term partnership supporting Flexible Lab Solutions future growth across the UK and EU.
