Olympus Launches ENDOEYE ULTRA Videoscope in EMEA

Olympus Corporation has launched ENDOEYE ULTRA in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, extending its videoscope portfolio for minimally invasive surgery. Announced on 1 July 2026, the new-generation device combines high-resolution 4K visualisation with ergonomic design features aimed at reducing operating room setup complexity. It builds on the three-decade ENDOEYE lineage across gastrointestinal, gynaecological, hepato-pancreato-biliary and urological surgery, with other regional launches subject to further regulatory clearances.

When paired with the VISERA ELITE III platform, ENDOEYE ULTRA enables 4K imaging alongside observation modes including Infrared (IR), Yellow Enhancement (YE) and Narrow Band Imaging (NBI). These support distinguishing tissue structures, assessing blood flow and identifying areas of clinical interest during a procedure. Focus-free imaging delivers a clear view from the start of surgery, while a fog-free function reduces manual adjustments mid-procedure.

Beyond visualisation, the design targets operating room workflow efficiency. The videoscope is lightweight, configured for one-handed operation, and delivers seamless image rotation with a stable horizon that helps surgeons maintain spatial orientation. Its compact construction integrates the light-guide cable into the system itself, reducing component count in procedures where working space is limited, such as single-port surgery and video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS). A plug-and-play setup removes assembly, and autoclavability removes the additional draping step, cutting preparation time. Kanichi Matsumoto, Senior Vice President and General Manager Surgical at Olympus, framed the launch around combining high-quality visualisation with practical usability.

The commercial signal is Olympus doubling down on integrated visualisation and workflow rather than pure imaging horsepower. With Stryker, Medtronic and Karl Storz all competing hard in 4K MIS surgery, ergonomic and setup-time gains are becoming the deciding factor for high-throughput surgical departments, and Olympus’s plug-and-play autoclavable form factor speaks directly to that operational pressure across NHS and private hospital procurement conversations.
