Blood Donation Nurse
Role Overview
You will be a key part of the nursing team and participate in both apheresis and blood donations. The main duties of the role will include carrying out apheresis and blood donation procedures, caring for donors and checking results.

Our clients are a modern blood donation facility, based in London. From here they collect blood and tissue samples from their volunteer donors, test and process the samples and deliver them to medical researchers in the UK and around the world. The blood and tissue samples collected and processed by Research Donors are provided to researchers working in laboratories at universities, hospitals, and companies including pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
They are a rapidly expanding business and now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to join their apheresis and blood donation nursing team. This is an exciting opportunity for the right individual to join them and participate in collecting blood and apheresis donations. This blood donation service is supported by the Medical Director and you will be an integral part of the nursing team delivering first class care to donors.
Role Requirements
Perform safe and effective venepuncture and canulation for whole blood and apheresis donations.
Operate their apheresis equipment (Optia) safely in collecting apheresis donations. Competency in this field is desirable, if not training will be provided.
Conduct vital signs observations, pre-donation screening and eligibility assessment for donors.
Monitor donors throughout blood donation and apheresis procedures and be able to promptly respond and implement any clinical intervention as required.
Deliver professional, compassionate and excellent donor-centred experience before, during, and after blood donation.
Accurately document all procedures, observations, and incidents, and provide appropriate follow-up where necessary.
Person Specifications
Essential for the Role
NMC registration.
1yr post registration experience.
Extensive experience in phlebotomy and cannulation.
Experience or willingness to train in apheresis procedures.
Excellent communication skills.
Good organisational and time-management skills.
Professional judgement and ability to escalate concerns appropriately.
Team and client-focussed culture.
Desirable for the role
Intermediate life support accredited.
Package
Salary £38-000 – £45,000 p.a.
20% bonus.
22 days Annual Leave + Christmas shutdown. Additional 1 day per year worked (up to 32 days).
Pension: 3% employee contribution & 5% employer contribution.
