Abbott Pairs Lingo CGM with Google AI Health Coach
Abbott and Google have announced a multi-year partnership combining Abbott’s over-the-counter Lingo glucose sensor with the Google Health app and its AI-powered health coach, expanding consumer access to real-time metabolic insights and personalised health guidance. Announced on 11 August 2026, the partnership includes plans for a large real-world metabolic health study that could inform future features for Lingo and future guidance from Google’s AI health coach.
Abbott’s Lingo glucose sensor, launched in the US in 2024 as an over-the-counter device, is designed for adults not taking insulin, helping users understand how diet, exercise and other daily habits affect blood sugar levels. Google’s Health app, built on the company’s 2021 $2.1 billion Fitbit acquisition, combines wearable data with AI health coaching for premium subscribers. Under the partnership, Lingo will integrate directly into the Google Health app later this year, feeding glucose insights alongside existing wearable data, and premium Google Health subscribers will receive tailored recommendations from Google’s AI health coach informed by their Lingo data.
The partners have also announced plans to conduct a large real-world metabolic health study integrating continuous glucose data, wearable data, laboratory results and participant survey data to explore connections between activity, sleep, well-being and metabolic health. The results could inform more personalised guidance and future product improvements from both companies. The collaboration lands as competitors accelerate their own AI-driven glucose health strategies: Dexcom was named the first participant in an FDA digital health pilot in July 2026 for an AI-enabled glucose health programme, and added generative AI to its OTC Stelo CGM in December 2024.
The commercial signal is the consumer CGM category consolidating around AI-driven digital health experiences rather than sensor hardware alone. Deep integration with big tech health platforms increases barriers to entry and expands the addressable market beyond insulin-using diabetics. Expect Dexcom, Roche, Medtronic MiniMed and Insulet to sharpen their own AI, wearable and consumer app integrations through the rest of 2026 and 2027.
