Field Service Engineer
Role Overview
We are currently recruiting for a Field Service Engineer to join a specialist technical support team covering the North West of the UK. In this role, you will support advanced electron microscopy systems installed across universities, research institutes, hospitals, and government laboratories. You will take ownership of installation, maintenance, and fault resolution for complex scientific instrumentation. Your work will help ensure researchers and laboratory teams can rely on high-performance imaging systems to support critical scientific and analytical work.

Role Requirements
Install, service, and carry out preventative maintenance on advanced electron microscopy systems.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex electro-mechanical and electronic instrumentation.
Provide on-site technical support to laboratories across universities, healthcare institutions, and research facilities.
Build strong working relationships with customers and act as a trusted technical contact.
Complete service reports, documentation, and system updates following customer visits.
Work closely with internal engineering teams and technical specialists when escalating complex technical issues.
Person Specifications
Experience supporting scientific instrumentation such as electron microscopes (TEM/SEM) is highly desirable.
Engineers with experience working on complex laboratory equipment, medical devices, or analytical instrumentation are encouraged to apply.
Military engineering backgrounds have previously transitioned successfully into this organisation.
Strong electro-mechanical and electronic fault-finding skills.
Comfortable working independently in a field-based role.
Strong communication skills with a customer-focused approach.
Full UK driving licence required.
Package
Basic salary up to £45,000 (flexible up to £50,000 for candidates with TEM or SEM experience).
Annual performance bonus equivalent to one month’s salary.
Fully expensed company car available for personal use.
25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and Christmas/New Year closure, with 1 additional day added per year of service up to 10 years.
